The aim of this course is to
provide participants with training for the elective units for handling patrol
dogs in security work.
CPPSEC3011A (Manage Dogs for Security Functions) and CPPSEC3010A (Handle Dogs for Security Patrol) are nationally recognised units of competency from the Certificate III in Security Operations.
This training applies to personnel who have responsibility for training, caring, handling and maintaining patrol dogs within a security function operated within an organisation. There is an industry expectation that individuals working with patrol dogs will have successfully completed these two units.
Participants enrolled in the course complete two units of
competency: CPPSEC3011A - CPPSEC3010A.
The course addresses the role and responsibilities of the dog handler to perform security operations according to organisational requirements and in compliance with relevant legislation.
Specific topics in the course include:
· Selecting a suitable patrol dog
· Understanding the legal requirements when working with patrol dogs
· Understanding the organisational requirements of a patrol dog handler
· Maintaining the health and welfare of a patrol dog
· Developing and implementing training programs for patrol dogs
· Conducting protection work with a patrol dog
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
All course participants must be over the
age of 18 years and provide an approved dog over twelve months of age,
preferably not desexed. Must be vaccinated, wormed and in good health and
condition.
Suitable dog breeds include German Shepherd – Rottweiler – Malanois – Doberman – Mastiff. Crossbreeds of the afore mentioned breeds can be acceptable. No banned breeds or restricted dogs are accepted.
A pre-course dog assessment is available to ensure entry level requirements. Course participants have the opportunity to undertake private lessons prior course entry.
COURSE COST
Proactive Security provides specialised training in dog handling and strives to
offer competitively priced training. Costs are available by contacting the
Proactive Security office. The cost of the course includes all training
materials, books, and support services. No further fees will apply except for
routine personal costs associated with the acquisition of a patrol dog or
equipment.
DELIVERY STRATEGY
The
program is divided into two components. The completion of the learner workbook
occurs prior to training at Proactive Security . Face-to face training will
consolidate the theoretical knowledge and allow students to practise the skills
required for a dog handler.
The
structured assessment process is designed to meet the needs of each individual
participant within the requirements of the units of competency and the
respective performance criteria.
The assessment involves completion of written activities, the screening of dogs for security assignments, the compilation of training programs for patrol dogs and the completion of obedience training, patrol work and agitation work with patrol dogs. Assessment occurs in simulated work environments with a range of security scenarios.
Proactive Security is a nationally
Registered Training Organisation - National Provider No: 31706 -

units of competency. Adrian Brown has vast experience in security operations,
